Rob Starr leads GrantStream’s technology team and is instrumental in making sure our products run smoothly and are user friendly. He has been developing software for more than 10 years and has focused this interest on web applications. As the “knowledge broker” for our developers, his thorough understanding of the development lifecycle of GrantStream products and remarkable attention to detail allow him to translate clients’ needs into viable technology solutions.

Rob has a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from McMaster University and is formally trained in modular software design, maintainability and documentation. He has worked on the full development life-cycles of a number of software projects, and rounding out his technical skillset are also database design and development, systems architecture and networking.

 

Under his guidance, the GrantStream development team makes sure its designs are always made with the user in mind. By getting to know some of our clients’ technology people who are well-equipped to scrutinize GrantStream’s systems, Rob has also gotten to know quite a bit about what corporations need from 3rd party hosting vendors like us, so clients can rest assured that their requirements and standards will be fully taken into account.

Rob lives in Grimsby, Ontario with his wife and son, where he brings out the engineer in “software engineer” by tackling hands-on projects around the house like building shelves, easels – even a shed. He also enjoys golf and trail biking.

Before joining GrantStream in 2005, Josh was team lead in a project that forever changed the way parking tickets are issued in Penrith, Australia by developing a mobile application for handheld devices now used by that city’s parking enforcement officials. After completing his BSc in Computing at Australia’s University of Western Sydney, he turned his sights to help forever change the way grant applications are processed in Canada.  As Senior Software Developer, Josh is to be thanked for a number of improvements to GrantStream’s technology services, including the reworking of the GrantRight® application form to extend its built-in features, functionality, layout and navigation. When we pressed Josh to reveal his deepest, darkest secrets for inclusion in this bio, we were stunned to discover – he hasn’t always worn glasses. We also learned that Josh once worked in construction erecting commercial buildings as part of the carpenters union in Ontario.

 

Josh lives in Burlington, Ontario with his wife where he enjoys skiing and snowboarding in the winter, fishing and captaining his local Ultimate Frisbee team.

Mihajlo Corovic

Software Developer

Mihajlo Corovic, or Mike as he’s known around the office, has been a Software Developer at GrantStream since 2007. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering and Management at McMaster University and is currently studying part-time towards an MBA, specializing in Management of Innovation and New Technology.

 

As the resident self-deprecating jokester at GrantStream, we were not too surprised to learn that Mike enjoys sugar, mashed potatoes, Wendy’s Baconator burgers and chocolate milk. More surprising was the discovery that beneath his analytical techy exterior, there lurks a sensitive poet who in his childhood almost landed a book deal back in his native Montenegro of the former Yugoslavia – impressive!

 

Mike currently lives in Stoney Creek, Ontario where he enjoys playing volleyball and many other sports, amateur astronomy, fishing and playing poker. He occasionally makes the trek to Toronto to cheer on his favourite sports team, the Toronto Raptors.

Joseph Hachey joined GrantStream as a Software Developer in 2006, after completing his studies in Computer Programming at Fleming College. You might be familiar with Joe’s work, but one of his more recognizable accomplishments is developing the Attachment capability for GrantRight® and MatchRight®, a feature that had been awaited and was much appreciated by many of our clients.

 

Another accomplishment under Joe’s belt is the completion of the 2008 NYC Central Park Triathlon, in which he participated with fellow colleague Monique Belzile, and which they gracefully completed by crossing the finish line together at the exact same time - to the millisecond! Back at the office, we were moved by the pair’s demonstration of the true spirit of camaraderie.

 

Known for sticking staunchly to his principles, Joe has been known to drive minutes out of his way in support of a personal boycott against a certain sandwich shop’s stingy condiment supply.

 

Born and raised in Toronto, Joe currently lives in Mississauga, Ontario with his family, including his young daughter.

Wally Lawless

Software Developer

Wally Lawless has always worked with technology in one form or another – from Sales Associate at an electronics store to Help Desk Technician to Computer Coach, to joining GrantStream in 2006 as a Software Developer. Wally is a self-professed and confirmed-by-others geek, who enjoys writing code in his spare time. GrantStream does value passion in its employees, after all. Among Wally’s fondest GrantStream memories are finally making sense of the backend of the Measurement & Evaluation module, and building the Project Evaluation Summary tool, due out in 2009.

 

Wally graduated in Software Engineering from Mohawk College. He currently lives in Burlington, Ontario with his wife where, despite his tech geek tendencies, he takes pleasure in unplugging from it all by rock climbing, running or camping when the weather is right. Wally also loves food, free time, gadgets, coffee and Australia.

Andrew Miles

Software Developer

Andrew Miles joined GrantStream in 2007. He completed studies in Software Engineering from Mohawk College and before coming here, worked as a Computer Programmer for a major steel company in Ontario. Andrew’s proudest GrantStream moments are all those times when he takes the fictitious company gold star away from Mike Corovic.

 

An avid game player, Andrew won two tickets to Germany in 2005 to participate in a tournament involving the popular boardgame, “The Settlers of Catan” (well…maybe not so popular).

 

Andrew also enjoys sports, especially volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee, movies, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Switzerland. He is also a proud sponsor of a little girl from Honduras through World Vision.

 

Andrew currently lives in StoneyCreek, Ontario with his wife and young son.

Andrew Forrest

System Administrator

Andrew Forrest joined GrantStream in 2008 as the System Administrator, and manages the smooth operation of the company’s network servers and workstations.  Andrew oversees GrantStream's computer system maintenance projects, working behind the scenes to ensure our technology systems adequately support the work we do. He is responsible for performance tuning and the procurement of technology, problem resolution, and backup management, as well as maintaining the security of our networks.

 

Prior to working at GrantStream Andrew ran a successful Computer Consulting business in beautiful Bahamas in which he provided full service contracts to small businesses.  He brings over 10 years of preventative maintenance and technical support experience to GrantStream.  He is most proud of having created interactive accounting database software which allows small companies to produce central bank reporting more efficiently.  Andrew has a BSc in Electrical Engineering as well as a BSc in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.  

 

Andrew currently lives in Mississauga with his wife and son where he enjoys the odd game of checkers, keeping up with sports, and playing basketball in his downtime. His small family is a far cry from what he’s used to – Andrew is eighth in a family of nine brothers and sisters.
